You may still view the list of affected titles on the ReadCube LibGuide. With print circulation resuming through Grab-and-Go service, the University of Kentucky's access to HathiTrust Emergency Temporary Access Services (ETAS) is ending.
ETAS allowed University of Kentucky students, faculty and staff to access digitized copies of copyrighted material currently held in its print collection. This service provided immediate online access to approximately 40% of UK Libraries’ physical collections. ETAS provides "special access for HathiTrust member libraries located in the U.S. that suffer an unexpected or involuntary, temporary disruption to normal operations, such as closure for a public health emergency, requiring the library to be closed to its patrons, or otherwise restrict print collection access services." Links to ETAS access have been removed from InfoKat Discovery. UPDATE: Access to JSTOR ebook collection is extended through August 31, 2020. Originally, access was scheduled to end on June 30, 2020. A complete list of available ebook titles can be downloaded here.
Per 5/27/2020: JSTOR has extended their expanded access offerings through December 31, 2020. Previously, access was to expire at the end of June 2020. Please check out the original blog post for more details! JSTOR Expanded Access to Archive Journal and Primary Source Collections JSTOR Opening 26 Public Health Journal Archives to Public Springer Nature has curated a collection of "books, journal articles and magazine content that amplifies Black voices and the issues raised by the Black Lives Matter movement."
The freely available content aims to "help readers gain from research insights, not least in the history and social science of racism and police violence." Additionally, the publisher hopes to soon expand the depth and breadth of material on structural racism, discrimination and anti-Black violence, inequality, health disparities and other challenging issues. Project Muse is providing temporarily free access to a selection of ebooks and articles in their curated collection, "Muse in Focus: Confronting Structural Racism." Project Muse introduces the collection with the passage:
A variety of participating publishers are opening up the free ebooks and articles to researchers for perspectives on "the history of racism in America, its endurance throughout society, and how the country can respond now to enact meaningful and lasting reform." UPDATE: HathiTrust’s Emergency Temporary Access Services (ETAS) will no longer provide users with the option to download pages while using a temporary access title. The change corresponds to HathiTrust’s current policy of not enabling downloads of entire temporary access works.
Logged-in users will still be able to download public domain and Creative Commons-licensed materials as usual. Nothing else has changed about the service, and logged-in users may continue to view and read temporary access titles available via ETAS. For assistance in accommodating print disabilities, please contact the UK Libraries Reference Desk. HathiTrust also provides the Accessible Text Request Service, which is designed specifically to permit access to copyrighted items for users with print disabilities. Check out our earlier post for more information about accessing and using the ETAS database. The browser extension from Third Iron has extended its functionality to Web of Science and Scopus. Now, with LibKey Nomad installed in your Chrome browser, you will be able to view cover images, access article in context links, and download PDFs with one-click access. See a preview of both below.
If you already have Nomad installed, these functions have been included in an automatic update. If you have not installed it yet, please click here when using your Chrome browser. EBSCO platforms now support Google CASA/Universal CASA (Campus Activated Subscriber Access). The new feature means that links to EBSCO content will appear in Google Scholar. When an end user is on-campus or in the library, and uses the University of Kentucky's network to visit Google Scholar, Google automatically creates an affiliation (or a “token”) between the end user and UK. From that point on, if the user visits Google Scholar from off-campus or outside of the library, their token is recognized and they will see links to journals and articles that UK Libraries subscribes to.
Due to current circumstances in which most users are not on campus, end users can also obtain a CASA token while accessing from the library’s proxy service or VPN. This will allow end users to obtain a CASA token from outside of the library’s physical location. For Google CASA, Google automatically creates an affiliation (or a “token”) between the end user and the University of Kentucky. End users must be on a library network (IP) to obtain a CASA token. Google CASA tokens typically persist for 30 days. However, in light of COVID-19 circumstances and end users accessing remotely more frequently, Google has extended all CASA tokens to persist for a longer period. Universal CASA extends the CASA user experience to other places where end users may start their research, such as a web search, PubMed, or URLs to CASA-participating publishers found elsewhere. Visit the FAQ page to learn more about the new feature. Elsevier makes the Elsevier Coronavirus Research Hub freely accessible through October 28, 2020. BrowZine and Third Iron provide quicker and easier PDF access three ways: LibKey Nomad, LibKey Link, and directly through UK’s InfoKat Discovery. LibKey Nomad: Download LibKey Nomad from the Chrome Web Store, select the University of Kentucky as your institution, and gain access to content on publisher websites, Wikipedia, PubMed, and more in a single click. Currently, the LibKey Nomad extension is only compatible with the Chrome browser. See this Nomad Technical FAQs sheet for more information about its functionality Check out our previous post for step-by-step installation instructions. LibKey Link: This feature allows users to access PDFs directly from PubMed in just one click. LibKey eliminates the need to navigate to the Link Resolver (UK's InfoKat Discovery menu) and the publisher page - saving clicks and time. When LibKey locates an article PDF, it will automatically open it in a new tab once the "View Now UK" button is clicked. LibKey Link is limited to users routing through the UK version of PubMed, rather than the free NLM or PMC versions listed in the UK Databases list. Note: LibKey Link is supported by many, but not all publishers. See this list provided by Third Iron for the latest information on publisher support. InfoKat Discovery: If Browzine identifies an available PDF in its collections, a Download PDF link will be displayed in the search result record. It will also display a link to the issue's Table of Contents with the View Issue Contents link. If no PDF is identified, but the issue contents are available in Browzine, only the View Issue Contents link will be displayed. In addition to article-level integration, when searching e-journals from the library homepage, if the journal is found in BrowZine, you will see a View Journal Contents link, which will take you to the journal-level page in BrowZine. From there, you can browse all available issues and their tables of contents. For more information on the BrowZine service at UK Libraries, check out the LibGuide here.
