A recent upgrade to the ClinicalKey website has caused the service to no longer function on Apple devices that cannot be upgraded beyond iOS 5, such as the first generation iPads. The official word from the support request sent to Elsevier was "unfortunately the iOS 5 environment is not supported by ClinicalKey. ClinicalKey requires iOS version 6 or later." Introduced in 2010, the first generation iPad is fast becoming a paperweight as upgraded websites and apps no longer support the iOS 5 environment. ClinicalKey seems to have joined the ranks of the Chronicle of Higher Education and BrowZine apps in leaving iOS 5 behind.
