In order to provide users with a more secure web browsing experience, the SpringerLink platform will transition from the HTTP protocol to the HTTPS protocol beginning Friday, February 24. This transition will currently only affect Google Chrome users. What does this mean for patrons? Once the transition is complete, any request for SpringerLink will direct users to the HTTPS version of the site. Although the links are set to be automatically redirected, there is no indication that this is a permanent redirect. Therefore, users with a bookmarked SpringerLink URL may want to go ahead and update it to include the new protocol (https://). Otherwise, we aim for a seamless transition. Electronic Resources and Library IT will make any necessary adjustments to the linkresolver and the EZProxy. This will allow end users to navigate to SpringerLink products just as before. If you do become aware of any issues regarding this transition, as always please contact Electronic Resources at [email protected]. In the meantime the HTTP protocol will still be available through any non-Chrome based browsers such as Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer, Opera, and Edge among others. Taylor & Francis Online Platform began experiencing technical issues late last week. Those difficulties are continuing into this week (week of Jan. 9th). This may impact journal access, in particular. We will update with more information as it becomes available. Taylor & Francis scheduled development work for their online platform from Tuesday, December 13th at 6:30AM until Wednesday, December 14th at 9:00AM (EST).
Please note that the Taylor & Francis website will have limited capabilities during this time. Patrons will still be able to download and read content, but searching the site, viewing informational pages, and purchasing options will be unavailable. We will also be unable to use Taylor & Francis or INFORMA Healthcare tokens during the downtime. It's unclear whether the imprint platforms of Taylor & Francis (Routledge, CRC Press, and Psychology Press) will also be affected. Alexander Street Press content is now being indexed by Google to make their content more easily accessible. Since nearly 70% of searches begin with Google, users will now be able to search for and link to Alexander Street Press content held by University of Kentucky Libraries - even when coming from off-campus. Beginning September 22, users will be able to follow an easy set of prompts to our library where a message invites them to enter institutional affiliation. Once entered, the user is linked to UK’s authentication page—so no authorized user is shut out, even when starting with Google.
